Household Hazardous Waste
TCEQ-approved HHW collection, one-day collection events and help with state notifications.
Approved by the state to take every kind of household hazardous waste
Household hazardous waste is the stuff that collects in garages, sheds and under sinks across Houston: half-used chemicals, old cleaners, containers nobody can identify any more. It does not belong in the trash and most people do not know where else to put it. That gap is the reason this service exists.
U-WRS is approved by the state of Texas TCEQ to collect, transport, store and handle all types of HHW. That approval covers the whole chain, from the moment material is picked up to the time it sits in storage at our 14730 Hempstead Road facility, so you are not handing it to a middleman who passes it along to someone else.
Because we run our own vehicles, the collection side stays under one roof as well. If you are not sure whether something counts as household hazardous waste, call 713-360-7310 and describe what you have before anyone loads a truck.

Planning a one-day collection event
A community clean-out only works if the day itself runs smoothly. U-WRS offers one-day collection event management, which means the handling side of the event is organised by people who do this work, rather than being improvised by whoever volunteered to host.
The questions that decide whether an event goes well are practical ones. Where will vehicles queue, and where does material get unloaded? How are containers kept apart as they arrive? Who tells residents what to bring and what to leave at home? Working those out before the date is most of the job, and we can talk them through with you.
Events also come with paperwork. U-WRS will assist with required state notifications, so the person organising the day is not left reading rule books on their own. We help you find out what applies and file it, and we do not guess at it.
Where the material goes after it leaves the site
Collected materials are sent off site for recycling, reuse, fuel blending or incineration. Which route a given item takes depends on what it is. Some products can be reclaimed and put back to use. Others carry enough energy that they can be blended into fuel. What cannot be recovered is destroyed by incineration.
The point of sorting this way is that very little of what you hand over ends up with no purpose. Material that can be recycled is recycled, and the rest goes to the end use that suits it.
If you want to know how a particular kind of household product would be handled, ask when you call. For lamps, batteries or leftover paint that turn up in the same clean-out, our lamp, battery and paint services can ride along on the same pickup.
