Battery Recycling

Batteries of any shape, size or chemistry, with containers to store them between pickups.

Any shape, size or chemical composition

We take batteries of any shape, size or chemical composition. The list we name most often is Alkaline, Lead Acid (Pb), Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), Magnesium (Mg), Lithium (Li), Lithium-ion (Li-ion), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Mercury (Hg), but it is not limited to those. If it holds a charge and has reached the end of its life, call us.

That range covers a lot of Houston workplaces. Forklift and backup power batteries, emergency lighting packs, tool packs, button cells from instruments, and the alkaline cells that pile up in a facilities drawer all go to the same place.

You do not need to know the chemistry to ask. Read what is printed on the case, or describe the device it came from, and we will sort out the rest on the phone at 713-360-7310.

Storing batteries between pickups

The risky stretch for a spent battery is the time it spends in your building. We stock a large selection of containers for easy storage of your spent batteries, so the cells have a proper home instead of a cardboard box on a shelf.

A few habits make that stretch safer. Keep chemistries apart, so Lead Acid does not share a container with Lithium-ion or Nickel Metal Hydride. Tape over the terminals of loose cells so they cannot touch each other or a metal lid. Keep the container dry, off the floor and away from heat, and do not toss a swollen or leaking cell in with the rest. Call us about that one.

If your volume is steady, a standing schedule keeps containers from filling past the lid. Our on-site collection program runs weekly, monthly or daily, and batteries can ride on the same visit as lamps and ballasts.

Where spent batteries go next

Our own vehicles collect from your location, in most cases within 48 hours of the request, and everything returns to our storage at 14730 Hempstead Road in Houston. You can also drop containers off at the facility, Monday to Friday, 8 to 4.

Super Universal Waste LLC is permitted through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as a Large Quantity Handler of Universal Waste, for one year of UW Storage. Batteries are collected, stored and transferred under that permit.

From Hempstead Road the material goes to permitted, State approved off-site recyclers for final disposition. We do not publish rates, since a pickup depends on what you have and where it sits. Ask us for a quote when you call.
